This black R/T and I were sitting at the light when the Hellcat pulled up. The left lane feeds onto the freeway, so when someone pulls into the second lane, they usually stomp on the gas so they can get cut left and catch the ramp.
Much to my surprise, neither of these guys wanted to put on a show. When the light turned green, we all accelerated at what would best be described as a stately pace. The Hellcat dropped back to slide in behind me.
It was not the spectacle I expected to see. Good for them.

I was pretty sure all Dodge vehicles were connected via Bluetooth to race all the time. Glad to know there’s a manual override.

Sometimes when you know you have the bigger hammer, you don’t need to swing it. But it’s nice to have the big hammer if you need it ;)

Can I just say I disagree with your approval of the Hellcat’s behavior.
To my mind, if you’re in that lane and want to get on the highway, either apply a good amount of throttle and get in front, or abandon the chase altogether and go to the next on ramp. I find it extremely annoying when people hang back to change lanes when there’s a clear path ahead of them, especially when I KNOW they have the power to do so. Most people use only a fraction of the power they have available anyways... 1/4 throttle is usually enough for me to dust people. More so for a Hellcat. And if the guy DOES decide to try and keep you out, and you don’t feel inclined to press the point, they’ve just created a big gap behind them that you don’t have to hold up a lane to take advantage of.
It’s not about racing or being in front, it’s about making your presence as light a burden as possible on those around you. Being the fast guy and getting in front does that, going to the next exit so you don’t have to cut over immediately does that, just getting in the proper lane in the first place does that... dragging your heels to get the gap that MAY or MAY NOT materialize behind you doesn’t do that.
*FYI,
I have no idea what you would describe as a “stately speed”. I just know that around here people that do this are incredibly ponderous.

I can agree with your scenario unless the lead vehicle in the left lane is , as in this case, something that is likely to want to race. A better approach is to not get in that lane in the first place.
A “stately” pace is one where less than 1/4 throttle is used to accelerate. I usually accelerate at a much more brisk pace.

*Full disclosure, this is entirely based on observed local habits so ymmv etc*
I find that even those that look like they could race almost never do. It’s much more likely to be the ratty Civic that tries that around here. Hence I say if you’re in that position use the damn loud pedal. Though you’re right about not getting in that position.
By that definition of “stately” I like their choice even less. Just go.
